DESCRIPTION: MESSY UPDO
OCCASION: CASUAL, SEMI-FORMAL

1. Flip your hair upside down and spray a fine layer of hairspray on the underside. Flip upright and repeat on the top. Finger-tousle as it dries.

2. Gather the hair around your face area and clip it out of the way so you can work on the back of your hair first. Do not overcurl. If you do take a wide tooth comb to the hair to loosen it up.

3. Start curling 1-inch sections away from your face all over your head, leaving your ends out of the curling iron.

4. Unclip the front section of your hair and curl as you did the rest of your hair.

5. Finger tousle your hair at the nape of your neck, then shake your hair (but do not run fingers through) to make the loose curls even messier.

6. Now loosely gather back chunks of your hair haphazardly (messy is good) towards the back of your head and secure with a bobby pin. Make sure you are gathering the chunks towards the middle of the back of your head to create a messy bun type gathering.

7. Keep out your longer bang layers.

8. Finish with a spritzing of hairspray and shine spray.

9. Remember to carry some extra bobbypins and a pocket size hairspray in your purse in case of hair emergency.

Follow these simple step by step updos instructions to get this look!

1. When wet, flip your hair upside down and spray a fine layer of mousse or volumizing spray on the underside. Crunch with your hands as you blowdry to create wave. Flip upright and repeat on the top. If your hair is very straight you may need to spend some time curling with a 1 inch curling iron after.

2. Brush out a 2 inch wide bang section on each side of your head and French braid (see below for French braid instructions) them as seen in the picture. Leave out to deal with at the end.

3. Now tease the under layer of hair (with a round brush) where the updo will be secured (middle, back area of your scalp). This will help build volume to help you secure the updo properly.

4. Start slightly twisting and pulling back 3-inch sections of your hair toward the area you teased, saving your braids for last. Keeping in mind the symmetry of the updo, whenever you pull a section from one side, take a similar section from the other side. This will prevent your look from being lopsided.

5. Bobbypin each section to the teased area at the back of your head (criss-cross the pins to really anchor hair in place). After each section is placed and pinned, lightly mist hairspray.

6. Now you can start to braid, gently tugging out pieces from the side of your head as need be, and when the braid is complete just tuck the ends right into the messy bun you have created, making sure to hide the ends under the bun and secure with bobby pins.

7. Finish the entire look with a spritzing of hairspray and shine spray.

8. Remember to carry some extra bobbypins and a pocket size hairspray in your purse in case of hair emergency.

2. Spray fine layer of hairspray evenly over entire head and let set for 15 minutes to 30 minutes depending on thickness of hair.

3. Carefully unravel, run-through the curls gently with your fingers and shake head from side to side, if necessary gently run through with a wide tooth comb.

4. Use a volumizing spray and tease hair with a teasing comb at the roots. Brush out gently, making sure not to ruin the volume you have just achieved.

5. Now tease the under layer of hair (with a round brush) where the updo will be secured (middle, back area of your scalp) and douse with hairspray. This will help build volume to help you secure the updo properly.

Follow these simple step by step updos instructions to get this look!

1. Do not wash your hair the day of the event.

2. Roll your hair in curlers using the larger curlers for the longest layers and the smaller curlers for the smaller ones.

3. Spray a fine layer of hairspray evenly over entire head and let set for 15 minutes to 30 minutes depending on thickness of hair.

6. Pull hair into a tight ponytail and gather the loose hair into a hairnet (that matches your hair colour) by loosely wrapping the hair in a bun and secure the hair net with bobby pins to the back of your head around the perimeter of the bun. If your hair is not long or thick enough, consider filling in the net with hair extensions by first wrapping the ponytail at the base with an extension piece to create fullness.

7. Take a good quality braided hairpiece and start securing around the net, starting at the bottom, with bobby pins that match your hair colour.

8. Secure the netted area to the edge of the braid to keep things even and to avoid the net from drooping over the braid.

9. Finish with an ample amount of hairspray to set the look.

THE ANGELINA JOLIE LONG, MEDIUM TO THICK FULL HAIR UPDO

If you have long hair, the Classic Upsweep Updo is great for a casual event, prom, formal event, or wedding. Perfect for medium or long hair, fine hair, or with a bit of wave, and unwashed

DESCRIPTION: FULL UPDO
OCCASION: WEDDING, PROM, FORMAL
HAIRTYPE: LONG, MEDIUM TO THICK, ALL TEXTURES

Follow these simple step by step updos instructions to get this look!

1. Do not shampoo your hair the day of the event.

2. Blowdry with a round brush to create volume. If you want to add thickness and voluminous oomph to your look you can always clip in some good quality hair extensions.

3. Roll your hair in curlers using the larger curlers for the longest layers and the smaller curlers for the smaller ones.

4. Spray fine layer of hairspray evenly over entire head and let set for 15 minutes to 30 minutes depending on thickness of hair.

5. Carefully unravel, run-through the curls gently with your fingers and shake head from side to side, if necessary gently run through with a wide tooth comb.

6. Starting at the top of your head loosely pull small sections of your hair back (don’t worry if you have long strands left hanging – we will deal with these later), twirl loosely and secure with a bobbypin towards the back of your head.

7. Repeat this in a clockwise motion around your head until all pieces are secure.

8. Start back at the top of your head and loop hanging strands of hair around a curling iron and set.

9. Once properly curled, secure loosely to head with bobby pin.

10. Gently pull out a few loose strands to frame the face.

11. Finish with an ample amount of hairspray to set the look and for an added touch try accenting with a hair comb or pins.

TIP: to get the extra lift on your crown, as seen here, you can use a volumizing texture spray and tease hair with a teasing comb at the roots. If you want to avoid the damage backcombing can do, consider a "Bumpit" - an insert hidden under the hair that will give hair volume and lift all night.
