THE YEAR OF THE TIGER 2010

Chinese New Year formally commences at the beginning of Spring. Hence, it is known as the Spring Festival. It is a time to cast away the bad blood of the previous year and wish for good fortune in the coming year. Unlike the western calendar, the Chinese have their own lunar calendar which revolves around the moon.

The Chinese zodiac is too old to be traced. Fable has it that all the animals were asked to report to the emperor on Chinese New Year day. Only the first twelve to reach the palace were to be rewarded with a year named after them. Since then, each year has been represented by an animal with its own distinctive characteristic and fate.

2010, the Year of the Tiger is widely feared by the Chinese, who tend to be especially worried during this specific period. They will try to avoid holding celebrations, having babies or shifting into a new residence so as to prevent the occurrence of misfortunes. Is the Tiger really such a dreadful creature? In fact, it is not, In Chinese tradition, the Tiger is used to word off evil spirits.

During ancient times, it was even defined as a symbol of power and everyone hoped to be blessed by it. The strong points of those who belong to the Tiger horoscope are their decisiveness, outstanding leadership quality and overwhelming power. When handling matters, they are brave and firm but not rash or conceited. Their easygoing personality makes them very tolerant of their family and children, which may in turn cause them to be indolent.
