TOURISM LAGGING IN JAPAN

The number of foreign visitor to Japan slumped at the fastest rate in nearly four decades due to the global economic downturn, a strong yen which makes travel to Japan expensive and fears over the swine flu, according to new data released by the Japanese National Tourism Organisation. Japan had been enjoying an increase of visitors for decades. In 1989 there were 2.84 million tourists and a decade later in 1999 the number had almost doubled to 4.44 million visitors. Just a year ago in 2008 the number of visitors to Japan was at a record high of 8.35 million and now the number has fallen by 18.7 percent to 6.79 million. Japan is the biggest drop in the rate of tourism the country has seen in forty years.

Some of the biggest hassles one encounters when traveling revolve around other tourists. Interestingly the country's largest tourism markets are China rose 0.6 percent to a record one million and South Korea market plummeted 33.4 percent to 1.59 million. The best news for people who are interested in going abroad to a country whose tourism numbers are down is that they are likely to experience less crowded conditions at major attractions and even promotional deals from hotels with unexpected seasonal vacancies.

MABEL LACE MISS MARK TOTE

Here's a girly tote if there ever was one. It's Marc by Marc Jacobs' Mabel Lace Miss Mark Tote, and it literally features a funky little 'girly girl' on the front. The Mabel Lace Miss Mark Tote is available at Bloomingdales for USD$188. Lots of bright, crisp white make it seem spring-y, which honestly I'm more than ready for, while blues and grays make up the rest of the design that's full of florals and lacey patterns. Made of 100% nylon it features double shoulder straps, an open top (not great for me as I'm prone to spills), and several interior pockets for goodies like your cell phone.

GET FIRED OVER A SLICE OF CHEESE AT McDONALD'S

Can you get fired over a slice of cheese? Apparently so, if you work at McDonald’s! A McDonald's outlet in the Netherlands was wrong to sack an employee for giving a co-worker a piece of cheese on a hamburger or junior burger(burger without cheese), a court has ruled.

The waitress' fired last March after she sold a hamburger or junior-burger ( a burger without a cheese) to a co-worker who then asked for cheese, which she added.

The fast-food chain argued this turned the hamburger into a cheeseburger, and so she should have charged more. The fired employee sued, and won:

The fast-food chain had argued that the waitress – who was employed at a branch in the northern town of Lemmer – had broken staff rules prohibiting free gifts to family, friends or colleagues. But the court said in its written judgement: "The dismissal was too severe a measure. It is just a slice of cheese," reports AFP news agency.

McDonald's was ordered to pay the former employee more than €4,200 or approx. USD$5,900, £3,660 for the last five months of her contract. Damn! Lucky...

The PanoMaticLunar XL presents the classic, minimalism, modern design, and look of the Glashütte PanoMatic XL models in an understated, eloquent form. The elegant moon phase display presents a shining silver moon and stars against a fine-grained silver sky.

The 42mm stainless steel case offers both polished and satin-finished surfaces and is held securely in place by a finely-worked gray alligator strap. At the heart of the new PanoMaticLunar XL is the Caliber 90-02 automatic movement.
